Be endued with Power

Pentecost Sunday is a day when we celebrate the upper room experience of the 120 with the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of God descended upon the 120 gathered in the upper room like tongues of fire. This is a great day for Christians as it marks the fulfillment of the promise of the Father to send the Holy Spirit to be with God’s people always.

Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city[a]of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.” – Luke 24:49

Our devotion today draws our attention to one very important purpose that the Spirit of God serves in the lives of God’s people. This is the purpose of enduing God’s people with power. It very uncommon to speak about the Spirit of God without mentioning the power He imparts in the lives of believers.

In our text, Luke 24:49 Jesus Christ was bidding His followers farewell and as part of his farewell messages, He encourages them that He will send the Promise of His Father upon them. The Promise of Jesus’ Father is the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ instructs that His followers should tarry in the city of Jerusalem until they receive the Promise. It is evident in Acts 2 that Jesus’ followers did wait in prayer and oneness until the Spirit of God came upon them. This was a remarkable day as the once timid followers after being endued with power came out boldly proclaiming the truth that Jesus Christ is the Messiah and Savior of all humanity. They spread this news to all that they may believe and also receive the Holy Spirit and live in the truth of Christ.

As I read this text, I asked why was it important that Jesus Christ emphasized that they should wait until endued with Power. I believe that there must be something very important about the power of God in the lives of believers.

The Importance of God’s Power in the believer’s life

Beloved in Christ,  the Spirit of God endues us with God’s power to be able to live as victorious children of God. Every believer has a destined purpose and that purpose is constantly being opposed by the enemy, the flesh, and even the world. There always seem to be a struggle to fulfill ones call in life. One faces temptations, trials, tribulations and even self-sabotaging struggles in one’s journey to fulfill their call and live to the glory of God.   The truth is to be able to live to fulfill God’s purpose for your life, you need God’s power which is given to us the Spirit of God. One is bound to encounter challenges and it is God’s power in us that enables us to overcome those roadblocks when we encounter them The followers of Christ had to wait in Jerusalem until they received this power. Upon being endued with power, the threats could not prevent them from sharing the gospel of Christ. The difficulties and challenges were overcome because God’s people were filled with power to live for God.

The amazing gift of God was given to God’s people on the day of Pentecost. Since then anyone who accepts the Lord Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior receives the Promise of the Father (Acts 19:2).  The Spirit of God generously endues us with Power to live for the glory of Jesus Christ. We receive power to be courageous, bold, obedient, loving and all the things we are called to do in Christ. Beloved, in times when you feel weak, troubled, incapable, ask the Spirit of God to equip you with God’s power that you may be able to overcome whatever challenge you are facing to live victoriously for Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ would not have us live defeated lives so He asked that we wait till we are endued with power. Be endued with power to live to the glory of God in God’s power. Jesus Christ dearly loves you <3. Stay blessed.
