“Don’t hesitate to ask questions if you are unclear about the class lessons” a statement many of us have heard before from our teachers or professors during class sessions. We ask questions to get responses that will enlighten us about our unknowns. The response we get for our questions brings understanding, clarity, peace and assurance to our disoriented state of mind.
In the gospel of John 14:2 – 4, Jesus Christ hinted to his disciples about his impending departure by stating
In My Father’s house are many[a]mansions; if it were not so,[b]I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. 4 And where I go you know, and the way you know.”John 14:6 NKJV
John 14:2-4 NKJV
Thomas one of Jesus’s followers upon hearing this was confused. He did not understand what his Master Jesus was saying and so to get an understanding of the statement the Lord Jesus Christ made, He asked,
5 Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?”
John 14:5 NKJV
Had Thomas not asked this question, the sixth I am statement would not have been revealed to us today. The question Thomas asked is one that many are still asking today, many are confused about life, they are asking, “what it is?, where it leads and how to live it?
The sixth I am statement of our Lord Jesus Christ settled all the qualms in my soul. It refocused my vision, purpose and understanding of all that life is about. In this statement Jesus Christ makes it clear and settles it all for every wondering, troubled and confused mind who like Thomas is asking the question about where life leads. Jesus answers by saying He is the Way, the Truth and the life.
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
John 14:6 NKJV

The Way
“How can we know the way?”
The common metaphor for life is that it is a journey which leads to a destination. On this journey of life we tread on a path. There are many paths in life and the path you choose to tread in life will always lead you to a certain destination. But the path that leads to eternal life and everlasting joy in God’s presence is Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the only way one can follow to live a life that brings God the glory. Jesus Christ is the only way that leads to life and all other ways leads to death. Jesus Christ is the THE WAY no other but Him alone. I pray the Spirit of God will help and guide us to follow Jesus Christ as we walk the journey of life.
The Truth
Lord we do know where You are going?
The truth of life is only defined by God because He is the creator of life and in Him do all things find their source. God is holy and for that reason He cannot lie. As we tread on this journey of life, we will be presented with so many things to attempt to stray us from the path that leads to eternal life with God but the only truth that will lead and guide us to eternal life with God is Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the truth of life, in Him we get understanding, wisdom, knowledge and enlightenment to walk on the way that leads to the Father.
The Life
I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
Galatians 2:20 NKJV
The word life falls into two aspects (1) the breath that quickens the body and (2) the way of being, existing, doing, growing etc. Paul who became the apostle of Jesus Christ understood and experienced Jesus Christ as the life. Paul who was once a sinner, persecuting the followers of Jesus Christ had an encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus and that experience transformed his life for eternity. Paul walked and lived in sin prior to his encounter with Christ, Paul like many was dead in his trespasses and did not know God. Upon accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, Jesus became the very breath that gave his mortal body life and power his way of living. Paul became alive in the spirit because Jesus Christ became his very life. A spiritually dead person who lives in the captivity of sin, guilt and shame becomes alive to live in holiness and righteousness when Jesus Christ comes into his or her life. Jesus Christ is the very breath that gives life to our being and power to the way we are called to live which is in true holiness and righteousness to God’s glory.
Beloved in Christ as we press through this journey of life, I pray we tread on the Way, obey the Truth, live the Life which is Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Jesus Christ the lamb of God who took our place on the cross that we may obtain the righteousness of God. Jesus Christ loves you dearly, seek Him and live for Him only.
