Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us, therefore, come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. – Hebrews 4:14-16
Last night, I was reading an article posted on desiringgod.org. It was about Jesus Christ is our Lord, Savior and more. This article drew my attention on how one easily narrow his or her perspective of God. So throughout the night, it just kept ringing in my mind that Jesus Christ is my Savior, Lord and more beyond counting. Jesus is our healer, comforter, friend, etc.
In today’s devotion, we discover Jesus Christ as our Compassionate High Priest. In order to understand Christ’s role as our High priest, let just review a brief background of the Jewish Passover tradition. Every year, the Jews celebrate the Passover and as part of the celebration is for the high priest to offer the Passover lamb as a sacrifice to atone for the sins of all the people. This lamb used in this sacrifice has to be pure without any spot or blemish and the blood of this lamb is deemed to cleanse the people from all their sins.
As Christians, we believe in the word of God that Jesus Christ is our great High priest. On the cross of Calvary, He gave himself up as the lamb of sacrifice to atone for all our sins. The blood of Jesus Christ is so powerful that it cleanses all generations from past, present, and future of all their sins when they believe in Him. The sacrifice Jesus Christ offered on Calvary was once and for all. (SO AMAZING!!!)
Come Boldly
In reflecting on what Jesus Christ did, today’s message is extending an invitation to you that you should come boldly to the throne of grace to obtain mercy and grace in time of need. Jesus Christ gave himself up that you will be able to receive all the help and grace you need in your life.
Come boldly, do not allow the heavy weight of shame, guilt, sorrow, suffering, prevent you from what has been obtained for you in Christ Jesus. On the cross of Calvary, Jesus Christ had you in his heart and mind. God’s will is to help you in the times of your need and so God speaks to us all that, let go the fear and take on boldness to approach the throne where you can obtain help.
God gets it
God identifies with your weaknesses, the temptations you face, the troubles and challenges that come against you. As our compassionate High Priest, Jesus Christ went it all that we can think of really difficult and troubling situations. Jesus Christ our great High priest sympathizes with our weaknesses in other words, God gets it. (God knows that it is hard). we can approach him easily and know that He knows what is going on.
Mercy and Grace are waiting for you at the throne of grace. The grace that is offered to us by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ took it all upon himself, our shame, sins, troubles, pains, sufferings that in him, we are saved, restored, redeemed, established, alive, blessed and fulfilled.
May God always bless you and remember that Jesus Christ loves you dearly.
Amen
Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. 1 peter 2:24
