The Invitation!

23 Then the master said to the servant, ‘Go out into the highways and hedges and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.24 For I say to you that none of those men who were invited shall taste my supper.’” – Luke 14:23-24

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving celebration in the United States of America. Many people will get together to celebrate this day with dinner parties and invite their loved ones, friends and even strangers to come and dine with them to celebrate this joyous event.

Happy Wednesday amazing people of God! In today’s devotion, God’s word is to remind us of the Lord’s invitation that is always extended to all to come in and dine with Him.

In the context of today’s Bible verse (Luke 14:23-24), Jesus Christ was telling his listeners about a story of a master who decided to host a feast and dine with three of his friends. After preparing the feast, he sent his servant out to go and call his friends to come in to dine with him. Sadly, all the three friends gave him lame excuses to decline the invitation to the master’s feast. The master then extended this offer to the poor and the maimed and the lame and the blind in the community to come in and dine with him. And even after, there was more room to be filled and the master asked the servant to go out there to bring all that he may find to come to the great feast,

There are two (2) things that stand out to me as I meditated on this scripture. These two things are the Master’s invitation and Work of the servant.

The Master’s Invitation

As I pondered over the master’s invitation, it reminded me of how the Lord invites us daily to dine with Him. In the parable, the master was not requiring anything of his guests, all he wanted was for them to come in and feast with him. To feast with the master, was to enjoy the food that he has prepared for them, and also enjoy his company. The master extended an invitation to his friends to just enjoy their fellowship. Beloved, the Lord just wants us to come in and enjoy being with Him. When we pray, worship and meditate on scripture, we are to embrace this moments as a time of dining with the Lord. When we dine the Lord, we get to enjoy his divine fellowship Lord and feed upon His word and build our spirits in his divine revelation of His truth. David truly testifies to how great it is to be with the Lord and that is why he said: ” in the presence of the Lord is the fullness of joy.” So my brother or sister in the Lord, let us always accept this invitation to come in and be with our Lord always in our secret places.

The Work of the Servant

As I thought about the servant, I could not help but think of the great commission for believers to go out there and preach the gospel to all people. It is our duty as children of God to also go out there and extend this invitation to all to come and dine with the Lord. God desires the fellowship of all people, that He may their God and they also His people.

It is my prayer that we will all continue to yield to the calling of the Lord to dine with Him and also yield as His servants to obey Him. Let us go out there and draw others to come and be with the Lord and also continue to be with Him in divine fellowship. There is no other place I will rather be than to dwell in the presence of God. May God bless you and keep you always in Jesus name Amen!
