The value of something to a person will be determined in how he or she keeps that thing. When we are entrusted with valuable things, we find it very necessary to guard these things because of its worth.
In today’s devotion, we are reminded of a very precious gift that has been given to us by God. This precious gift is given to us to not only to have in our possession but to also share with others. The word of God is this amazing precious gift that I speak of which we have been given by the grace God. There are uncountable benefits or reasons why the Word of God is of such great worth in the life of a person. The Word of God is the truth that brings light and life into the lives of humanity. Apostle Paul and many believers in the early church knew the worth of the Word and went to any extent to guard and share it, even when it cost their own lives.
Today’s verse is from Paul’s second letter to Timothy. The revelation of the worth of the Word of God had captivated the heart of Paul for it was by the Word of God that brought him out of darkness into the marvelous light of Christ. As a spiritual father, he passes on this wisdom to his son Timothy and urges him by saying “KEEP that good thing”, making reference to the precious gift of The Word of God
14 That good thing which was committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us. – 2 Timothy 1:14
Beloved, it is my prayer today, that the true revelation of the Word of God will come into our hearts and we will keep it as instructed in this verse. The Word of God is the reason all who believe in Christ today have been saved. Our faith in Christ is stirred by our encounter with the Word of God, the gospel reveals the truth of our Lord Jesus Christ who died for all.
Personify the Worth of God’s Word in your life
What does’ the Word of God mean to you? Dear one, meditate on this question and I pray as you do, the Spirit of God brings enlightenment of the Word into your heart. It is very important that we always think about the worth of the Word of God in our lives. For me, it is the word of God that I am alive today. Many will share in this testimony, life was leading them down a dark alley to destroying themselves until the Word of God revealed Christ to them. I hold the Word so dearly in my heart for what the Word has done and continues to do in my life. It is from this revelation, that one can hold on and be convinced to keep and share the Word of God. Throughout Paul’s epistles, he emphasizes what the gospel meant to him and how his faith was built in it. In the book of Romans, Paul shares, For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth…
I recieved my salvation in Christ by the hearing of the Word of God.
Rely on the Help of the Spirit of God
The word of God could just be text without meaning or a very controversial book in your eyes if the Spirit of God does not give you understanding. God in His grace and wisdom has given us His Spirit to help us keep His word. To keep God’s word is to trust, guard, meditate, share, live, etc by the Word. A man of God once shared that he reads the word of God not in Hebrew, English or any other language but in the Holy Ghost. In this, he was sharing that it was through the guidance and teachings of the Spirit of God that we are able to discern what God is leading us to know in His Word. At times the promise you find in the Word of God may not manifest in the way that you were expecting, also you may find it very difficult to understand a verse or chapter you read. Beloved, that is why Paul urges Timothy to “Keep the Word by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us”. Keeping the word is not dependent on man’s ability but God’s ability to obtain that which we look for. Today, I pray that dearest Holy Spirit will be our guide, our teacher, our friend to help us to keep the word of God and reveal to us the hidden mysteries that will deepen your roots in Christ.
Read Matthew 13 ( The importance of keeping the word)
The enemy seeks one thing from us, that he will take the word that brings abundant life to us. Beloved, it is very important that I stress this again, guard the Word of God in your heart. A person that does not guard the Word of God after he or she has heard it, is like a tree without roots. The enemy can toss you to and fro by any false doctrine and deceits in the world.
yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles.- Matthew 13:21b
We want to keep the word because, we know it’s worth in our lives, many have been saved, healed, delivered, restored, all kinds of graces has been administered to others through their believing in the Word of God. In keeping the word of God, the Word of God keeps you from the falsehood of this world. The word allows us to always bring glory and honor to God in all that we do.
May the Spirit of truth guide you in the word of God that you may keep and share with others. Stay blessed.
