The grace to become a child of God is one that should never be undermined in the hearts of believers. We always ought to be praising and thanking God for the gift to make us His children. We cannot in our minds fully comprehend what it means to be a child of God but what we should know is that when we believe in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior (John 1:12), we become God’s children. This identity we possess ought to be always near and dear to us because it cost God’s His beloved Son to be able to make us His children.
I remember back in middle school days, one of the things that my friends and I will talk about will be to boast of about our parents’ wealth and their achievements. And we did this to prove ourselves and make ourselves known as children of wealthy parents or acclaim the achievements of our parents to ourselves. This was just one of the acts of childlikeness, being proud of who your parents are is what most children tend to do.
Beloved in Christ, today we will be meditating on God’s word concerning our Privileges as Children of God.
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.- Romans 8:14-17
As children of the Most High God, we ought to know that we are not ordinary but indeed very valuable and our value is worth the blood of Jesus Christ. Christ had to come on earth live and die that we may be redeemed to God as His children. In the today’s verse, it highlights three very important privileges we possess as children of God.
1. We have the Spirit of God
The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. Just as we have the DNA of our earthly parents to bear witness that we are true offsprings of our parents, in the same manner, God gives us His Holy Spirit when we become His children. God’s very Spirit that moved over the earth during creation, the almighty power that worked in Christ in His ministry and continues to manifest in our days is given to all children of God. Beloved we have His Spirit in us, to help, teach, guide, guard and be with us always to live our lives as victorious children of God. This privilege we have is one that we ought to always acknowledge and give thanks to God always. We have His Spirit and so we ought to live our lives by yielding to His Spirit that we may be able to be faithful to God.
2. Privilege to Suffer with Him
and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him. As I always state in my blog posts, the life of the believer is not a bed of roses. We face trials, temptations, and tribulations always. As children of God, we are also siblings to Jesus Christ as He is the Son of God. As Christ suffered, we also will suffer but in all this, we share in His suffering that we may share in His glory. Our Lord Jesus Christ makes it known in His word we will suffer because of Him, I consider this a privilege as it is being given the opportunity to stand for our Beloved Jesus Christ.
2 Timothy 3:12 – Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.
Philippians 1:29 – For to you it has been granted for Christ’s sake, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake,
Beloved, let us stay strong and keep our eyes on Jesus Christ and always remember that the end shall be to the glory of God. The suffering of today cannot be compared to the glory to be revealed.
3. Privilege to be glorified with Him
that we may also be glorified together. As we share in our Father’s suffering, we also share in His glory. Beloved God gives us the grace to be able to experience life as He does. The glory of God is manifested in all that He enables us to do in Him. As children of God, we are heirs of all that God has. He has given us authority over everything. God gives us the power to heal, cast out demons, to fulfill His plans for our lives and so many amazing things. There is a day coming when the true beauty of the children of God will be revealed to the whole world- Romans 8:19
Dear one, I pray that you have been blessed today and this has stirred up more revelation in your heart to know and behold your God as your Father and yourself as His child. Always keep this in your hearts and minds that God truly loves you so much and He desires the best for you. Yield to the Fathership of our God and overcome the Spirit of orphan. You have a Father in God who has blessed you more than you can imagine or think. Do not let the present sufferings make you lose hope but keep on and trust in Him, greater glory is ahead to be revealed. May God richly bless you all. Stay blessed.

Very well written! I am so thankful to be adopted into God’s family as His daughter! We may suffer in this earth, but the grace He gives us through it, allows us to walk through the trials in a markedly different manner than those who do not know Him, & that in itself brings glory to Him, & then the outcomes we get! Glory to God!
