Life in darkness vs. Life in the  light…

In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.- John 1:4

It takes one to know one, they say, one can never speak to an experience unless you have had a similar encounter. The vivid description of any experience still does not fully convey  the true knowing of the experience unless you partake in it yourself.

The account of the experience of a person who once lived in the darkness and is now transformed  into a new life in the light cannot fully be known by others unless they get their own personal experience. I never really understood the things of God until I received the life in Jesus Christ which brought light into my life.

The purpose of this blog post is to share the distinction between life in the darkness and the life in the light of Jesus Christ. It is my prayer that as you read this blog that your heart will drawn to seek the life in Christ Jesus which will illuminate your life with His light to overcome every darkness.

I say it simply this way, life outside of Christ is like living in darkness; not being able to make out what is around you, the meaning of life and who you are, your true purpose in life and everything else you can think of.  I never knew I was in darkness until I encountered the light in the life of Christ. This is a true life experience and one will not understand it or fully know it until they accept the life in Jesus Christ to bring light into their life to truly testify to this experience.

Life in the darkness?

Darkness is the absence of light, that is the opposite of light. Living in darkness which I also term as a life without Christ is like living in a place of ignorance, deception, wickedness, corruption and all kinds of evil works. As humans, our rational mind determines how to view life and live it. Since our lives are so dependent on our rational mind, the absence of the truth in the rational mind shows in  our outlook of life. The lack of truth in the mind allows all manner of deception to fill is like corruption, immortality, wickedness, self centeredness, etc because the mind is deceived. (lacks the truth, who is Jesus Christ).

Many think that our rational mind can produce the essence of truth, unfortunately, this is not so, the truth of God’s word is not conceived by the mind but rather received by the mind from the gospel through faith. A life lived in darkness is one that sticks to rationality and forsakes the truth of the gospel. The rational mind had no distinction of what evil is because it does not know the truth, such who live this way classify what is good works only by what is not a legal crime. And so such a life easily accepts and indulges in all kinds of pleasures which are evil in the sight of God and  such a life has no conviction. Some of the acts in the darkness include, sexual immorality, lewdness,  foolish talking, covetousness, selfish ambitions, revelries, disrespecting the elderly, arrogance and many others.

In darkness, the mind cannot operate in God’s will due to the absence of the truth.

Light is to the eyes as the Truth is to the brain

The biological ability for the eyes to see is made possible with the presence of light. The lens focuses light through the vitreous humor, a clear gel-like substance that fills the back of the eye and supports the retina. The retina receives the image that the cornea focuses through the eye’s internal lens and transforms this image into electrical impulses that are carried by the optic nerve to the brain. https://www.nkcf.org/about-keratoconus/how-the-human-eye-works/. When the eyes see, it communicates information to the brain to inform the person on what to doIn the darkness, the actions, decisions, and thoughts stem from a place of pure ignorance, deception, and blindness due to the absence of light for the eyes to see. The outcomes of such a life lead to death, as it keeps you bound by the devil and before you know it you get destroyed by the enemy.

This my prayer for anyone who is living in darkness that God will

18 … open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.’ (Jesus Christ) – Acts 26:18

Life in the Light

In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. I testify that to this truth that indeed Christ brings light into the life of a person. The coming to know something for the first time is often described in the English term as being enlightened; to gain knowledge or insight. Life in darkness is a place of ignorance and so when one comes into Christ, that person is now enlightened with the truth. Life in the light is filled with the fruit of the Spirit which is God’s goodness, righteousness and truth ref. Ephesians 5:9.

Upon receiving Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, I experienced a change in the way I view life. I began to see clearly, I started to understand with my mind the truth about what life is about.

The life of a person in the light is transformed, as I realized that my former desires which were works of darkness that held me bound and eventually were going to destroy my life was gone. The things I was doing in my life before Christ  led me astray into things and kept me bound by the devil.

The light in Christ illuminated my mind about the truth of my identity (I am a child of God) and my purpose (Created to bring glory to God in all things) and many other things I am still experiencing in my life. Life in Christ by far is the most joyful, amazing, adventurous and exciting life I have ever had

I will highlight a few Bible verses that highlight the truth that as humans, we NEED the light in Christ to be able to overcome the darkness in this world.

  • John 8:12- Whoever walks with Christ has the light of the world.
  • 1 John 1:5-9 – The light of God illuminates our hearts to love the way God calls us to love.
  • Psalm 27:1 – The light of God gives us the confidence to walk without fear.

Dear one, I pray that this has been able to impress on your heart the desire to always seek the light in Jesus Christ. A life outside of Christ is thick darkness, you are misguided, deceived and you get lost. Jesus Christ is the way, the truth and the life and His life is the light of men. Please seek Him to live a victorious life, do not allow the enemy to toss you to and fro in darkness because you cannot see but receive the truth of the gospel to bring light into your life that will deliver you from the kingdom of darkness in the kingdom of light.

May God continue to bless as we all strive to grow in Christ together.

Stay blessed.
