One of the most mindblowing- attributes of God is God’s creative power. By this, I do not mean the ability to be artistic, but more so in the sense of being able to do exceedingly, abundantly, above all we could think and imagine.

Generally, as humans, we often have very limited understanding of ourselves, others, situations and many things in general. I believe we have this limited understanding because of our nature as humans. But in that limitation,  one thing remains unlimited and that is the power and ability of God in all things.

As I reflect on the faces of the young ones I sit in youth group from week to week, I think upon their lives now as young people and just imagine the greatness that lies ahead of them. Looking back on my own life and how far God has brought me, it is beyond my imagination and understanding. God has been absolutely gracious with my life, and I believe you can also bear witness to that in your life.

In each and every person there is a seed of the glory of God that has been planted inside. God has created us so that our lives will bring God glory.  The limitations we place on life makes us undermine this seed, we underestimate our abilities and the grace of God that abounds to sustain us. We often focus on what our strengths and natural abilities can do and forget all about the creative power of God that works in us.

Dear one in Christ, if you have come to the place where it seems that you have lost all hope and it seems you cannot do it with your own abilities and resources, please let the title of this post ring in your heart that “God’s favorite thing to do is to work with “nothing””

Let us just soak in God’s word on how God worked with what was deemed in the eyes of humanity as “nothing” and made awesomeness out of them.

Formless and Empty Earth became a beautiful Universe

In the beginning, when the earth was formless and void, God’s creative power brought about the existence of the world.

1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.^{[a] 2} The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. – Genesis 1:1-2

Five Barley Loaves and Two Fish to Feed A Multitude

Jesus looked upon the five loaves and two fish and out this small meal was able to feed a multitude. Andrew had deemed the small meal as no good in looking at the number of people that were needed to be fed.

⁸ Then Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up. ⁹ “There’s a young boy here with five barley loaves and two fish. But what good is that with this huge crowd?” – John 6:8-9

A Flask of Olive Oil to Redeem  the Widow’s Sons 

At a time, when the widow was at the verge of losing her sons, Elisha the servant of God caused what she deemed as nothing to bring about her blessings which were used to redeem her sons.

“What can I do to help you?” Elisha asked. “Tell me, what do you have in the house?” “Nothing at all, except a flask of olive oil,” she replied. ³ And Elisha said, “Borrow as many empty jars as you can from your friends and neighbors. ⁴ Then go into your house with your sons and shut the door behind you. Pour olive oil from your flask into the jars, setting each one aside when it is filled.” ⁵ So she did as she was told. Her sons kept bringing jars to her, and she filled one after another. ⁶ Soon every container was full to the brim! – 2nd Kings 4:2-6

Beloved in Christ, often times, what we deem as nothing is EVERYTHING in the eyes of God. The above are just a few the gracious acts of God in the lives of people. Beloved, what do you have in your hands? Where are you in your life right now? Whatever the situation may be, please I encourage you to commit it all to God right now and trust Him with it. As God did with the formless and empty earth, the five loaves and two fish, the flask of olive oil, the same gracious God will bring greatness out of whatever you have committed to Him. Just give God your “nothing” and watch God make SOMETHING great and mind blowing out of it!
