Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly

The way we live and view life originates from a source that serves as our guiding light—offering wisdom, knowledge, and truth. For believers, this source is God, the Creator of the universe and everything within it (Genesis 1:1). He has graciously provided His Word to reveal who He is, guiding us in His ways and Will, enabling us to know Him and honor Him as our Lord and Savior. Through God’s Word, we gain a profound perspective on life, understanding what we need to know and how to live in a way that fulfills His purposes while bringing glory to Him. It is through this lens that we come to know God, relate to Him, and experience His incredible grace, love, goodness, and fullness as His beloved children.

In Colossians 3:16, Paul encourages the church to let the Word of Christ deeply permeate every aspect of our lives. This means allowing it to be the authority in our lives, saturating our entire being so that every thought, action, or word springs forth from God’s Word. The Word of Christ, also known as the Word of God, encompasses the gospel, the teachings of Christ and the apostles, as well as life stories, proverbs, songs, prophecies, and more, all found in Scripture. These elements serve as the foundation of our Christian living.

Paul emphasizes that the word of God should dwell within us abundantly, guiding us in (1) wisdom, (2) teaching, and (3) admonishing one another through Psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Let’s explore these key aspects that Paul highlights regarding the rich indwelling of the word of God.

Let God’s Word be your source of Wisdom

In James 3:13-17, we discover two kinds of wisdom that people follow. They are (1) worldly wisdom and (2)God’s wisdom.

Worldly wisdom leads to bitter envy and selfish ambition, creating disorder and all sorts of evil practices. This wisdom is rooted in the enemy.

As believers, we are encouraged to seek God’s Word for true wisdom, which brings purity, humility, peace, consideration, submission, mercy, good fruit, impartiality, and sincerity. The Scriptures offer us heavenly wisdom, and when we meditate on and reflect upon them, we can embody these truths in our lives and bear witness to Jesus Christ.

In essence, wisdom of the world, is the wisdom that make humans do what seems good in their own eyes but in the end leads to death and the wisdom of God is that allow humans to do God’s will which leads to life eternal

Let God’s Word be your source of knowledge

We live in an incredible era of advancement, where science, technology, and social sciences have unveiled many truths that enhance our quality of life, especially in health care and well-being. While these fields enrich our understanding of the physical world, the Word of God stands as our ultimate source of knowledge and insight for both physical and spiritual life.

God’s Word illuminates our path, guiding us through every stage of life—from childhood to old age. It addresses all aspects of our well-being and the vital areas of life, such as finances, singlehood, marriage, work, and government. Embracing God’s Word as a source of our knowledge and understanding serves as guidance, empowering us to navigate these affairs with truth, grace, bringing us abundant peace and joy, while glorifying God in all we do.

For the Lord gives wisdom;
From His mouth come knowledge and understanding; – Proverbs 2:6

Let’s God’s Word be your source of admonishment

In our Christian journey, we may stumble at times due to our fallen nature. However, we are called to turn to God’s Word for correction and guidance as we deepen our relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. The Greek word for “admonish,” nouthetountes, means to appeal to the mind with God’s Word. By immersing ourselves in Scripture, we empower ourselves to share godly wisdom with others, appealing to their minds with wisdom, knowledge, and truth rooted in God’s Word. As children of God, we are part of His family, and we are called to be our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers. Through God’s Word, we can offer counsel, teaching, and preaching to uplift and admonish one another in Christ, working out our salvation and growing in the Lord together.

Beloved in Christ, echoing the words of the Apostle Paul, let the Word of Christ dwell in us abundantly. This empowers us to live in alignment with God’s will and purpose, reflecting His glory and experiencing the fullness of joy.
