Jesus Christ our one True Friend

A true friend is hard to find in our day and age, but there is one who always offers Himself at no cost to us: our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He gives Himself wholly to us, not only as our God, Lord, and Savior but also as our very true friend.

Friendship is a Must in our lives

As humans, we are meant for relationships. It is through these connections that we thrive and become who we are truly meant to be, especially when the relationships are positive. With Christ as our friend, we are guaranteed to have someone who remains true to us and is always there to guide, lead, provide for, and care for all our needs to become our true selves in Him.

In this life, we inevitably encounter hurt in our relationships—whether with parents, spouses, siblings, or friends. This is not meant to deter us from forming these connections but to remind us that human relationships are imperfect due to our sinful nature. However, there is one relationship that will never bring us pain: our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, whose nature is Holy and True. Friendship with Jesus becomes our guiding example and source for nurturing earthly relationships. As we experience the eternal love, grace, kindness, and goodness of God, we become like fountains, allowing these blessings to overflow into our interactions with others. It’s essential to recognize that no earthly relationship can fully fulfill our emotional needs; only God has the power to do that. Therefore, getting to know the Lord Jesus Christ is crucial, as it helps us navigate and heal from the hurts of earthly relationships.

Friends of God in the Bible

Abraham loved God not only as His Lord but His friend. There was nothing Abraham withheld from God and likewise God. In this deep friendship, God blessed Abraham and entrusted Him to the father of all the nations and was through Abraham that the nation Israel was birthed. Another person that strongly stands out is David, David discovered the truth of what it means to be one with God, David pursued God with all His heart that God called him “one after my own heart”. During Jesus Christ time on earth, he and his disciples developed more than just a teacher and students relationship to friendship where He shared with them the mysteries of the Gospel, imparted godly wisdom, and constantly prayed for them. Jesus Christ told them they have become His friends and that is why He lays down his life for them.

Called to friendship with God

Beloved in Christ, God calls us to know Him as friend and that is because that is what we need to be able to fully live out our life in Christ. God becomes personal to us when we get know Him as our friend, we are able to be vulnerable with Him and freely come to Him in all things at all times.

The Grace, mercies and love of God becomes deeply entrenched in our hearts. I pray that we get to know and establish deep friendship with God. Friendship with God will not make prayer feel like a chore but as privilege and joy to always come to God in good times and bad times. Serving God will be our expression of love to God, yielding to His leadership will flow out of this love we share with God.

In our next post, I will share on how to become a friend of God.

Be blessed
