After being saved, we gain a new identity. As believers, we often focus on deriving our identity from what we do, how we look, and where we come from – mostly from our physical experiences of life. We tend to neglect the core identity we receive when we accept and believe in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.
I truly believe that the hope for our growth, meaning, and fulfillment as believers is based on our understanding of this identity in Christ as a child of God. Understanding this identity reveals to us who God is as our Father, how we should relate to Him, and who we have become as children of God.
12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the [a]right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. – John 1:12-13
I recently appeared on Alone with God TV hosted by Minister Walter Twumasi. We discussed the topic of Identity in Christ. Understanding our identity in Christ is crucial for our faith and for living a holy and righteous life in Christ Jesus.
The Key takeaways from this session are as follows:
How humans came to be – The Original Creation
God created Adam and Eve in his own image with the ability to think, feel, and choose. He also breathed into Adam the breath of life, making him spiritually alive. Adam and Eve carried the DNA of God and were one with God from the beginning of creation.
What happened to humanity – The Fall
Adam and Eve sinned by disobeying God, leading to their spiritual death and separation from God’s presence. As a result, everyone born into this world is physically alive but spiritually dead.
How we become a Children of God
To become a child of God, one must receive Jesus, believe in His name, and be born of God. This involves fully subjecting every detail of life to the Lordship of Jesus Christ, having complete faith in His authority, and starting a new life in God.
As you watch this video, I hope that the message of God about our identity in Christ will be a source of great blessing to you. It’s my sincere prayer that it helps you to understand who you are as a Child of God and, more importantly, to know your Heavenly Father and live your life for God’s Glory.
