Grow as Christ did…

In this season of Christmas, we celebrate the birth of Christ, how our Lord and Savior was born to us to save us from sin.  From my previous blog, I wrote on the title “God became human” the purpose of this was to draw our attention to the fact that God became human to set an example for us as believers. Jesus Christ is our perfect example of how we ought to be as believers.

In today’s blog, I will like us to look at our growing Savior as a child. After the birth of Christ, the gospel according to St. Luke points how our Savior grows.

Luke points out three very important traits that were evident in the life of our growing Lord. These traits were, Jesus Christ grew in Strong in spirit, Filled with wisdom and the Grace of God was Upon Him.

And the Child grew and became strong in spirit,[k] filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him. Luke 2:40

As believers in Jesus Christ, we ought to grow in the Lord as our Lord grew in His human form.

Strong in spirit

As humans, we are made up of a triune nature, our spirit, soul, and body (ref. 1st Thessalonians 5:23ref. 1st Thessalonians 5:23). Just as we observe our body grow from stage to stage, so must our spirit grow. Our spirit is the part our being that communicates with God directly. It is where the Holy Spirit abides in us. It is very important that our spirit person is strong as it helps us to live as children of God. A person with a weak spirit is easily led astray by the enemy and the evil pleasures of this world. My dear ones in Christ, as we read in the life of our Lord and Savior Christ, His purpose was to come and save from our sin. A task that was not ordinary, which needed Him to be ready and fully prepared to give His life to redeem ours. Just as Christ, each one of us has a God-given purpose to fulfill, one cannot live out this purpose without the adequate preparation process. As a doctor must go through medical training to become a doctor, so must a believer be built up in a strong spirit to be able to live out a life that brings glory to God. To build up your spirit to become strong, it requires us to abide in the true vine always. The true vine is Christ and out of Him, we can draw the sap that will strengthen our spirits. Dwelling in Christ means abiding in His word, yielding to the Spirit of God, bearing fruits of the Spirit, in all living for God. A life connected to God is one that grows strong in the spirit.

Filled with Wisdom

Wisdom is the principal thing according to Proverbs 4. The wisdom of God is the light of our understanding. Without God’s wisdom, we will walk in foolishness. The life we live in Christ is one that is filled with wisdom. Believers ought to get the wisdom of God to be able to walk in the counsel of God. Jesus Christ as a growing child demonstrated that He had wisdom. Our Lord’s life tells us we ought to grow in our godly wisdom, our life has to operate in the understanding of God’s counsel. Jesus Christ’s wisdom allowed Him to counsel and answer all questions that were brought to Him. All who came testified that there was something that was unique in the way that our Lord Jesus Christ spoke and lived. Beloved, let us seek the wisdom of God and grow in it. The wisdom of God is not one that seeks selfish ways but one that is pure and manifests the glory of God.

James 3:7 (Heavenly wisdom)

But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.

The Grace of God

In all things, it takes the grace of God for us to do it. Our strength, our abilities, and talents are not sufficient. Grace is the divine unmerited help that is given in abundance to all humanity. Our Lord Jesus Christ had the grace of God in His life. In all He did, God was with Him. My dear one, God is with you also, His grace is upon all of us. As God spoke to Paul and said to Him ” My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness”. Let us always know that as we grow in the Lord, and start to face more difficult challenges, the grace of God will always be upon us to help us stand and attain victory in Christ.

Dear ones, let’s keep looking to Jesus Christ in all things. I pray that God will help our spirit person become strong, fill us with heavenly wisdom and His grace always rest upon us in all things. May God continue to be with and keep you as we enjoy the last few days of 2017. Always know that Jesus Christ dearly loves you! ❤
