One of my resolutions for this year, is to pay very close attention to how my character is being molded in Christ. A few weeks ago I posted about pursuing godliness which was for January, now for February, I will like us to focus on being humble and fearing God. Praise God for the holy scripture which is our awesome gift that provides insights and wisdom to teach on how to be molded into the nature of Christ.
In today’s devotion, I want to entreat us to pursue the character of humbleness and the fear of God in our walk with God. The scripture verse for meditation is:
The reward for humility and fear of the Lord
is riches and honor and life. – Proverbs 22:4
How amazing it is, that we get rewarded by what we become. We serve a gracious and loving God who takes pleasure in blessing his children. I pray that this verse motivates you to pursue a character of humility and the reverence of God in all the days of your life.
Imitating Jesus Christ Humility
Humility is very important in our lives as believers because it is a key that helps unlock our purpose in life. Our Lord Jesus Christ being humble was able to go on the cross to die for us. Many who have attained great heights in their lives has been as a result of humbleness in obedience to God. One who is not humble often misses where and what God is doing in his or her life.
5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. – Philippians 2: 5-7
Beloved let us be humble in all things, knowing that all we are or have become is by the grace of God. Pride comes in when one tends to acclaim all that they are and have become to their own works and abilities and leave God out. Dear one, let our hearts always be stayed on God and know that God is the one that has made us, provides for us and sustains us.
Revere God, Fear God!
“Fear” is a word that often used to mean “to be afraid”. But in this context “fear” means to revere, or to show respect. Sincere and true reverence to God is an important characteristic that all believers must possess. We serve a great and mighty God, the creator of the world and all that there is, none can be compared to the almighty God. This month I pray that we devote ourselves to revere God. To revere God is evident in our relationship with God, how we obey God’s word and walk in God’s word. Our reverence of God is shown in our godliness. Our Lord Jesus Christ reverence of God was shown in always obeying God, loving others and yielding to the Spirit of God.
Beloved, when we set our hearts to be humble and have the fear of God in all that we do, the word of God is true and will come to past as God’s riches, honor and life will become our portion. I pray that God the Holy Spirit will help us all to become humble and also revere God all the days of our lives in Jesus name. Amen.
Stay blessed ❤
